Show Notes

During the first half of the 19th century, demand for Cotton led to the expansion of plantation slavery. By 1850 enslaved people were growing Cotton from South Carolina to Texas. With the invention of the Cotton Gin, Cotton became the cash crop of the deep south, stimulating increased demand for enslaved people from the upper south throughout the land.
